OUSD Wellness & Nutrition Policy

Cupcakes, cookies or candy may not be sent to school for classroom parties or birthdays.  It is suggested that if parents wish to send something to school on their child's birthday, a book be donated in the child's  honor to the school library or classroom, or a non-food item be sent in for the class.  Snacks for students must be nutritional in nature, such as fruits & vegetables, cheese sticks, nuts, whole grain bars, applesauce, raisins, or lowfat animal crackers.

Please note: Students may not have fast-food meals at school.

Wellness Policy

New District Calendar for Start of 2013-14 School Year

Beginning with the 2013-14 school year, the first day of class for all OUSD students will be Tuesday, August 20, 2013.  The slightly earlier start date is a result of a new district-wide calendar unanimously approved by the OUSD Board of Education.  The change was made during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, March 13, 2012.

school_calendar.jpgOther minor changes regarding the revised calendar beginning in 2013-14 include a shorter Thanksgiving Week holiday and an end to the first semester at the winter break (December 20, 2013).  The last day of instruction for students will be June 4, 2014.

The district asks that all OUSD families please take note of these changes in order to plan accordingly for the start of school in August 2013.  For questions regarding the calendar change, please call 760-966-4008.

Mandatory Student Uniform Board Policy

Mandatory Student Uniforms Statement of policy

The Board has determined that a policy requiring students to wear uniforms is necessary to promote the health and safety and the academic environment in the schools of the district.  Based on this determination, the district will implement a mandatory student uniform policy in all schools district-wide, kindergarten through eighth grade.  Schools will work closely with members of their local communities as they implement this policy.

Schools will conduct an annual evaluation designed by the district and, based on the results, the district will consider modifications to the policy.
